When you’re talking about the activities you see people doing in this video, use the gerund form. Using the gerund (-ing) form of a verb actually makes it a noun – but only if it is in the subject or object position in a sentence. It turns “I am surfing” (am surfing – present participle in the present continuous tense) into “Surfing is fun” (surfing – gerund, the subject of the sentence).
What other activities can you identify in this video? Whether they are gerunds or verbs will depend on the sentence positioning.
- playing on the beach
- taking a tour bus
- sightseeing
- playing soccer
- driving a moped
- shopping
- meeting people
- swimming with seals and penguins
- hang gliding
- rock climbing
- rappelling
